I tired of being scolded by anarchists for being pro marijuana legalization or for supporting a dramatic wage increase. If fighting the capitalist system to make the lives of the working class a little more tolerable is ‘reformist’, then so be it.
But it’s important for the anarchist community, especially white anarchists and insurrectionists, to realize that reforms, though temporary, is a practical form of direct action. No, it doesn’t immediately defeat capitalism, the wage-system or the state, but it allows us to raise consciousness amongst the working class and to form a strong community, which is pivotal during the revolution.
That’s not to say that we should focus on reformist causes, but that we should learn to be pragmatic and recognize that some issues, like increasing the national minimum wage, would help the working class and hurt the capitalist class. And that we should all support.
