When you travel to “the States” (am I saying that correctly?), there is one cultural boundary you do not want to cross with the native white people there. Avoid using the word “racist” around them at all costs. They are extremely offended by this slur and in some rare occasions, it has been said that the word “racist” will trigger a medical phenomenon called “white tears”, which is exclusive to their kind.
The California Assembly has approved a bill banning the use of “conversion therapy” or similar practices to try to change a minor’s sexual orientation.
The bill had already been approved by the Senate and now is in the hands of Gov. Jerry Brown, who has not said whether he’ll sign the bill into law.
In applauding the bill’s passage, Clarissa Filgioun, board president of gay rights advocate Equality California, called such therapies “dangerous.”
“These dangerous, unscientific practices have caused too many young people to take their own lives or suffer lifelong harm after being told, falsely, that who they are and who they love is wrong, sick or the result of personal or moral failure,” she said.
If this bill passes, it will be the first of its kind in the country. Please, Gov. Brown, do the right thing. And stay tuned here for updates.
