Canada Cracks-down on Occupy Canada Camps

This week several Occupy Canada camps have been cleared including Occupy Toronto, nonetheless, protesters say the movement is far from dead.

Vancouver
Evicted from their initial camp at the Vancouver Art Gallery, protesters set up a new tent city this week at Robson Square, but were forced out a second time by court order.

Victoria
Police moved in Tuesday to remove a handful of remaining Occupy protesters at Centennial Square; all but one left without incident.

Edmonton
Authorities on Friday evicted a small group of protesters who had been camping out at a downtown site for more than five weeks.

Calgary
After bylaw officers swept through the site and confiscated unoccupied tents, about 10 structures were left standing at Olympic Plaza; a dozen protesters were gearing up to fight the city in court next week.

Regina
Police and city officials took down the remaining nine tents last week, meeting no resistance in the already abandoned camp.

Winnipeg
The small encampment in Memorial Park had not been evicted, but a large tent burned down early Friday, prompting one protester to allege a “hate crime.”

Ottawa
Police removed a small group of occupiers near Parliament Hill this week, prompting a renewed protest and eight arrests.

Quebec City
Police and firefighters moved in on the Occupy camp, which was among the first to receive eviction notices this month, in a pre-dawn raid Tuesday.

Montreal
A Friday morning police raid successfully dismantled the group’s downtown camp; despite much shouting, the occupiers did not physically resist.
